A nonfiction book of nearly 500 pages, produced in three languages, with extensive references, notes, tables, and an index.
This book (Hidden Horrors of Psychiatry) presents a critical examination of psychiatric practices for a general audience.
Starting from a Word manuscript, I designed the complete interior layout, selected the fonts, and established a consistent typographic style throughout the book.
My focus was on making a large amount of information comfortable to read. This meant paying attention to the small details: avoiding unnecessary hyphenation, keeping word spacing balanced, preventing awkward page breaks, and ensuring paragraphs flow naturally.
The manuscript also required considerable attention to consistency. I standardized details such as currency formats, dashes, and punctuation, set up the footnotes and endnotes, and created an index from a supplied list of terms.
With more than 800 references, over 600 index entries, and several tables, careful organization was essential.
I also designed the book cover, creating a custom image in Photoshop to reflect the book's subject rather than using an existing stock image.
I designed and typeset all three language editions, maintaining a consistent appearance while adapting the layout to each language. I also prepared the interior and cover files for professional printing, handling the project from the original Word manuscript through to the final print-ready files.
